The importance of rainforests

What would our life look like without rainforests? How would our lives be without animals? My heart belongs to animals. For me, they are the most beautiful creatures on our planet, and they are calling for our help. With my work for Masarang, I can contribute to animal protection and the restoration of their habitat. I fell totally in love with the magnificent nature of Indonesia. During my travels through Asia, the vulnerability of nature and animals began to strike me more and more. Another critical issue is that we often forget that the rainforests are our pharmacy for natural medicines. I like to call them green medicines because they have minor or no adverse impact on the environment. During my online searches at home for an initiative I could support, I stumbled on Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Center and Masarang Foundation and the incredible story of Willie Smits.

Masarang and Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Center

Dr Eng Willie Smits founded Masarang International and Wildlife Rescue Center Tasikoki to work with local people on sustainable solutions for the most urgent global problems, think about deforestation, biodiversity loss, climate change, poverty, etc. Willie Smits’ activities may occur in Indonesia (Sulawesi and Kalimantan), but they play a global role. After all, the problems in Indonesia have also an impact on the entire planet. The loss of trees, vegetation and natural habitats for wildlife is an enormous problem in almost all tropical rainforests. The team of Masarang is tackling these issues at their heart and works to find sustainable solutions which will work long-term.
